Analysis of Leakage Reasons of 1 High Power Lead-acid Battery



During the long-term use of batteries in the data room, no matter what type of batteries, there are more or less safety hazards, such as battery deformation and leakage due to improper production, transfer, transportation, protection, long use time and poor device, etc.

Battery leakage is a common safety hazard. After years of research and analysis, mainly the following reasons lead to leakage.



(1) Electrolyte



High-power lead-acid batteries need no electrolyte for protection. In the process of production, the poor-liquid technology is generally used. The positive oxygen is absorbed through the ultra-fine glass fiber partition channel to the negative electrode for compound absorption, if the amount of electrolyte in the battery is excessive.

If more pressure is added, the composite channel will be blocked, then the gas pressure inside the battery will be added, which will cause leakage of the battery in the place of poor sealing.



Safety valve



Safety valve is the "metronome" for the storage battery to regulate the gas pressure. It can seal the battery under certain pressure and prevent the electrolyte from overflowing to the outside world. When the storage battery exceeds the regular pressure, the safety valve actively opens and deflates, which generally causes the leakage of the safety valve.

Firstly, the excessive acidification of the battery and the rich liquid state of the battery result in the obstruction of the gas channel of the O2 regeneration, the gas generated by the battery can not be recombined, and the increase of internal pressure leads to the frequent opening of the safety valve. After the gas overflows the safety valve, it is cooled outside the battery and condenses into acid around the safety valve.

Secondly, the aging of rubber pad around the safety valve and the change of battery sealing function make up of the decrease of opening pressure, the long-term opening of the safety valve, and the leakage phenomenon after the acid mist condenses into liquid.



(3) Polar terminal



The phenomenon of pole leakage is widespread in data centers. After one year of battery operation, the leakage of individual pole terminals will occur. Often after five years of operation, the leakage of pole terminals is very serious. The key reason for battery leakage is that pole metal does not cooperate with battery cover sealant.

OK, the pole terminal is corroded by oxygen in acidic environment. Under the action of internal pressure, the electrolyte flows along the corrosive path and leaks to the surface of the terminal. This is commonly known as acid creeping phenomenon.



(4) Battery cell cover



At present, there are two kinds of sealing methods for cell cover: epoxy resin sealing and heat sealing.



The leakage of epoxy resin sealant is mainly due to the strict operation conditions of the sealant, which requires that the epoxy formula and curing conditions should be well controlled. Otherwise, it will form a leakage passage and a battery leakage due to the poor bonding between the sealant and the shell.



Battery heat seal is to melt the plastic of battery tank cover in a specific temperature and time. If the heating temperature and time are well controlled, and the sealing place is clean and pollution-free, the sealing is always correct and reliable. Honeycomb trachoma exists in the layer. Under the internal gas pressure, acid fog follows O2 through the trachoma and leaks.



2 Preventive Measures for Leakage of High Power Lead-acid Batteries



In order to solve the leaking problem of lead-acid batteries, the most important thing is to ensure the quality of lead-acid batteries, such as ensuring the quantity of electrolyte in a reasonable range, ensuring the sealing of battery shell, and ensuring the effectiveness of battery cover sealing. Manipulating leakage at source is the most important.

The most important way is also the most basic responsibility of battery manufacturers.



Of course, it is very difficult for any product to achieve 100% good product rate, so through some additional methods to prevent the damage caused by battery leakage has a certain practical meaning. Usually, data center users prevent short circuit damage caused by battery leakage, mainly adopt the following methods.



Insulation pad



Insulation pad is the simplest and most effective way to prevent short circuit of high-power lead-acid batteries. It is usually placed in the center of the load-bearing beam of batteries and battery racks. By adding insulation pad at the bottom of batteries, batteries can be made.
